Women's Tennis Opens at ITA Regionals

PROVO, UTAH – Air Force Women's Tennis opened competition at ITA Mountain Regionals with victories in the doubles stage, while awaiting the start of singles action.
Shivaani Selvan/Alba Martinez scored an 8-3 win over Monika Fizova/Kate Pritchard (Montana), earning their first win as a pair while elevating each to 6-3 and 4-1, respectively.
Sophomore Sofia Mavor and freshman Yule Kang defeated Colorado pair Pia Rebec/Heidi Crncan, 8-5. With the win, Mavor improved to 6-3 with victories in three of her last four contests; Kang, at 7-2, has logged wins against CU opponents in two of her last three doubles sets; Mavor and Kang are currently 3-0 in doubles matches played together.
With qualifying complete, main draw singles begin on day two with Mavor (4-3) and Kang (6-3) vying for at-large bids into ITA Sectionals and a potential automatic berth into the NCAA Individual Championships.
Martinez (3-2), seeing her first fall singles competition since opening weekend, defeated Boise State's Lorelyz Marruffo in two sets before falling out of contention against Montana State's Angel Bean.
Day two, which includes the next round of doubles and the start of main draw singles, opens at 8 a.m. in Provo.
