
Air Force Falls To LIU On Veteran’s Day

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball dropped a 76-72 contest to Long Island on Veteran's Day Tuesday afternoon at Clune Arena. Freshmen Kam Sanders led the Falcons with 18 points.
Air Force nearly overcame a 15-point deficit with a furious late-game rally. Down 70-55 with 2:43 to play, Air Force closed the game on a 17-6 burst. The rally ran out of time as the Sharks were able to hold off the Falcons.
The trio of Sanders, forward Eli Robinson and center Wesley Celichowski combined for 47 points for the Falcons. Robinson scored a career-high 16 points and led the Falcons for the third straight game with seven rebounds. Celichowski added 13 points and four rebounds.
Forward Kyle Marshall also had a strong game off the bench, adding eight points and a career-high seven assists. Forward Lucas Hobin was also a bright spot off the bench, scoring six points late in the game.
Malachi Davis and Jamal Fuller led LIU with 14 points each. Tre'shawn Sheppard notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Air Force played a solid first-half, taking a 33-32 lead into the half. The Falcons led by as many as 11 in the opening half, before the Sharks closed the gap. Trailing by two, Ethan Greenberg drilled a three as the first-half ended to put the Falcons up by one.
LIU controlled the early part of the second half, taking the lead for good at the 13:10 mark.
For the game, Air Force shot 43 percent from the field and 39 percent from three. The Falcons made 15 free throw's nearly doubling the previous season high of eight makes. Air Force also got a season-high 18 points from the bench.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Nov. 15, hosting Miami (Ohio). Tip time is 12 pm MT.
