USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Backed by another strong night of hitting from sophomore Alysa Walker and senior Ashley Bible, the Air Force volleyball team captured a thrilling five-set victory over conference newcomer Grand Canyon this evening (Nov. 13) at the Academy. After finding themselves in an early 0-2 deficit (21-55, 24-26), the Falcons stormed back to complete the rare reverse sweep – using a 25-23, 26-24, 15-12 finish to take down the Lopes and improve to 15-12 on the year, with a 7-8 mark in Mountain West play.
Walker and Bible combined for 48 of the team's season-high 70 kills, as Walker posted a career-best 25 strikes – the most in a match for Air Force since Abigail Miksch (26) in 2018 – and Bible posted a career-high 22 for the second time in as many matches. Sophomore Grace Fiaseu also reached a double-digit kill total on Thursday, adding 13 strikes on .435 hitting (13-3-23). Fiaseu and Walker, who hit .357 (26-6-56) for the match, helped Air Force to a .235 overall hitting.
In addition to her 26 kills, Walked added 15 digs for the 11th double-double of her career, while Fiaseu supplied three of the team's eight service aces and led Air Force with five blocks (one solo, four assisted). The Falcons responded and pulled within one (16-17) during a run that was backed by three kills and an ace from Bible. GCU pushed their advantage out to three (20-17) and, although Air Force pulled within one three more times, the visitors took the opening set by a 25-21 score.
A block from Fiaseu and sophomore Brooksie Isham gave Air Force an early 5-3 lead in the second, while kills from Walker and freshman Sonia Okpara pushed the Falcons' advantage to three (8-5).
