Falcons Post 6-4 Record at Causeway Classic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Backed by an undefeated record (2-0) from the women, the Air Force boxing team posted a 6-4 record at the annual Causeway Classic in Sacramento on Nov. 21.
The women perfect at The Nest, as senior Charlotte McPhee-Gillum and freshman Madei Soluren earned decisions over contenders from UC Davis. McPhee-Gillum downed Genna Van Der Wal in a 119-pound match-up, while Soluren nabbed her second win of the week with a 130-pound victory over Bea Lacson.
Six of the men's eight bouts were contested in two weight divisions, with Air Force going 2-1 at 143 pounds and 1-2 at 154. Junior Sebastyan Correa Rios and sophomore Russell Klug won their 143-pound bouts, as Correa Rios decisioned Sacramento State's Sebastian Perez and Klug picked up his second-straight victory with a decision over Santa Clara's Riggo Garcia. Sophomore Nick Lightell won his bout in the 154-pound division with a decision over Cameron McGhee of Sac State. Also competing in those two weight classes, senior Dominic Feliz suffered a 143-pound setback to Gabriel Ponce, while senior Noah Gilley (Marcos Vasquez) and freshman Brock Buak (Javi Alejo) both fell to boxers from the host Hornets at 154 pounds.
Sophomore Oude Owino rounded out the Falcons' list of champions with a 190-pound victory over Andrew Gomez of USC, while freshman Joshua Gibb fell to Santa Clara's Jose Madagera in his road debut at 185 pounds.
Select members of the Air Force boxing team will head to New York City on Monday, Nov. 24, to wrap up the fall competition calendar at the annual Arthur Mercante Invitational.
