
Air Force Fencing Completes Competition At 2025 Western Invitational

USAF Academy, Colo. - Air Force fencing completed competition as the host institution at the 2025 Western Invitational this Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 22-23, at the Cadet Gym. Facing some of the most elite college fencing programs in the nation, the Falcons came away with nine team victories, three against ranked opponents, in head-to-head competition.
On the men's side, Air Force competed against Brandeis, #15 UC San Diego, #5 Ohio State, #1 Columbia, #11 Stanford and Incarnate Word. The Falcons earned wins over Brandeis twice, 14-13 and 16-11, UCSD 14-13, UIW 21-6 and Stanford 15-12.
On the women's side, Air Force competed against Brandeis, UCSD, #6 Ohio State, Denison, #2 Columbia, UIW, Tufts, #5 Northwestern and #9 Stanford. The Falcons earned wins over Brandeis 14-13, Denison 14-13, Incarnate Word 19-6 and Tufts 16-11.
The Falcons had 11 cadet-athletes notch double-digit win totals.
On the women's side, Melissa Kline, Christina Watrall, Ellie Kim and Mira Vestel notched double-digit wins. Kline returned from injury to make her 2025-26 debut, going 15-2 in women's foil. Watrall was dominant in women's epee, going 14-3. Vestel led the women's team with 17 wins in women's saber. Kim posted 10 wins in epee.
On the men's side, Omar Emara notched 19 wins in men's epee. In foil, Richard Li tallied 18 wins, Jack Griffith 15 and Sean Oh 12. In epee Kaiden Choi earned 13 wins and Byung Kim 12. In saber Andrei Nazlymov led the group with 10 wins.
The Falcons return to action Jan. 9-12 at the USA Fencing Junior Olympics in Kansas City, Mo.
