Air Force Downed at San Diego State In MW Opener

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force men's basketball (3-9, 0-1 MW) fell to San Diego State (6-3, 1-0 MW), 81-58, in the first Mountain West game of the 2025-26 season Wednesday night at Viejas Arena. Freshman guard Kam Sanders led the team in scoring with 13 points.
Air Force hung tough with San Diego State early. The Falcons held the Aztecs to 39 percent shooting in the opening half and trailed by just three at the break 33-30.
San Diego State took control of the game in the second half, aided by shooting 68 percent from the field and hitting seven three's. The Falcons also had 10 second-half turnovers.
Sanders led the Falcons in scoring for the second-straight game. He also added a team-high four assists.
Sophomore forward Eli Robinson and freshman forward Lucas Hobin scored 11 points each. Robinson was 5-of-7 from the field, to go with a team-high six rebounds. Hobin knocked down three three's off the bench.
Junior forward Kolby Gilles made his first-career start, playing a career-high 28 minutes. Gilles had four points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard AJ Patterson added six points and tied a career-high with two steals.
Guard BJ Davis came off the bench to lead SDSU in scoring with 19 points, adding six assists and four made three's.
Air Force knocked down eight three's on the night for its best three-point game since making 10 three's against IU Indy. The Falcons also shot 75 percent from the line, which was its third-best percentage of the season.
Air Force returns to action Dec. 30, hosting Wyoming. The game tips at 2 pm MT and will be televised by Altitude and streamed on the Mountain West Network.
