Air Force Falls In Battle At Navy, 61-56

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Air Force men's basketball (3-8) fell to Navy (5-5), 61-56, in a Service Academy game Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall. Freshman guard Kam Sanders led the Falcons with 15 points.
Air Force was unable to hold an nine point lead, as Navy rallied back with a big second half. Guard Austin Benigni put Navy on his back by scoring 13 consecutive points to put the Midshipmen ahead for good. Air Force led 41-34, before Benigni's run put Navy ahead 47-41. Benigni scored 23 points on the day, with 21 coming in the second half.
The Falcons led 25-24 in a first-half that featured 11 lead changes. Air Force seemed to take control of the game with a 7-0 run to go up 37-28 with 12:06 to play. Navy then began its rally and went up six by the end of the 13-0 run with six minutes to play.
Air Force got the game back down to two points with three minutes to play, but Navy finished with a 12-9 run to close out.
Sanders scored his 15 points off four field goals, including a pair of three's. He also went 5-for-7 from the line. Junior forward Caleb Walker added 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. His streak of 16 consecutive made field goals was snapped in the game.
Freshman forward Lucas Hobin scored 10 points, with a career-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Justin Hinds had career-high's of eight points and six rebounds.
Joining Navy in double figures were Aidan Kehoe and Jinwoo Kim with 10 points each. Kehoe had a double-double with 15 rebounds.
Both teams shot 39.6 percent from the field. Navy held a 14-8 advantage in free throws made.
Air Force is off from competition next week due to finals. The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Dec. 17, opening Mountain West play at San Diego State. Tip time is 8 pm PT and the game will be televised by CBS Sports.
