Air Force Falls at #12 Oklahoma

Air Force men's tennis dropped a 7-0 contest at #12 Oklahoma in a non-conference dual Saturday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

The Falcons opened by dropping the doubles matches at No. 3 and No. 1. Alec Fritzinger and Langdon Tingleaf fell at No. 3 to Vojtech Petr and Oscar Lacides 6-3. Arjun Kersten and Jack Brown fell at No. 1 to Kholo Monts and Luis Alvarez 6-3.

In singles, Kersten dropped his match at No. 1 to #73 Lacides 6-3, 6-0. Tingleaf fell at No. 6 to Asahi Harazaki 6-2, 6-2. AJ Moore fell to Jordan Hasson at No. 4, 6-3 , 6-2. Phillip Deaton fell at No. 2 to Kholo Montsi 6-4, 6-3 to allow the Sooners to clinch.

Alex Fritzinger fell at No. 3 to #62 Alvarez 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Matthew Staton took his first loss of the season at No. 5 against Alejando Melero 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.

Head Coach Evan Urbina on Oklahoma match:
"Our guys stepped up to compete with a top Oklahoma team today. Playing with a loose and free mindset helped us hit the ball well. Phil and AJ had great energy and were up a break with several match points in dubs. Arjun and Jack fought back from an early break down, and you could see our confidence grow as the match went on. Alec Fritzinger pushed his singles match to a breaker in the second set with some excellent, aggressive shots. We have good takeaways for each player moving forward. It was a great experience for us, and I'm excited to see how it helps us this season.

Coach Nick Crowell has been a mentor of mine since I started coaching college tennis, and the OU fans were kind and respectful towards our team. It was overall an incredible experience."

Air Force returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 8, with a home doubleheader. The Falcons take on MSU Denver at 10 am MT and Montana at 3 pm.
