Air Force Splits Doubleheader With MSU Denver and Montana

USAF Academy, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis split a doubleheader with MSU Denver and Montana Saturday at the Academy Indoor Tennis Courts in the Cadet Gym. The Falcons defeated MSUD 7-0 and fell to Montana 5-2.

In the opener vs. the Roadrunners, the Falcons took the doubles point and went 6-0 in singles.

Kyle Garner and Tyler Leaird won at No. 2 over Ollers/Inghilterra 6-1. Then Luke Wolf and Matthew Staton clinched with the win at No. 3 over Trujillo/Lawlor 6-2.

In singles, Staton defeated Enzo Inghilterra 6-2, 6-0 for the first singles point. Arjun Kersten then won at No. 1 over Lluc Limongi Ollers 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Langdon Tingleaf then won at No. 4 over Hector Cebrian Moral 6-0, 6-2 to clinch.

Alec Fritzinger then rallied to win at No. 4 over Marco Jalalian 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2. Jack Brown won at No. 5 over Kai Trujillo 4-6, 6-2, 10-3. Leaird then won at No. 6 over Maximo Lawlor 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.

In the afternoon match, Montana took the doubles point and the Falcons were only able to come away with a pair of singles wins.

Moore won at No. 4 over Fernando Perez 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1. Tingleaf won at No. 6 over Eivind Tandberg 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.

"Today was an absolute battle for our team. It was great to see some different combinations in doubles, and see us work through matches in the morning. Our freshmen were lights out. In the afternoon, we competed against a tough Montana team. They were well coached for the altitude and, in the end, outplayed us. All six singles matches went to third sets. We have a clear plan to improve based on these matches. We will get better at executing the basic fundamentals in doubles, focus on our transition game (and our passing shots), and improve our holding serve percentage. It's a long season, but we got better today, and are very thankful for the fan support. We are thrilled to compete in Orlando next week. Go Falcons!"

Air Force next heads to the USTA Center in Orlando, Fla. for a pair of matches. The Falcons take on Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Feb. 13 at noon ET. Air Force then takes on Navy on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 5 pm ET as part of the College MatchDay.
