Women’s Tennis Falls 4-2 to Navy at College MatchDay

ORLANDO, Fla. – On a warm and fun-filled day at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Air Force Women's Tennis, facing off against Navy on College MatchDay, fell 4-2 to the Midshipmen.

Navy took doubles off of a pair of narrow, 6-4 wins on lines one (Arianna Van Houweling/Nadia Kojonroj vs. Emily Tannenbaum/Olivia Fermo) and three (Sofia Mavor/Shivaani Selvan vs. Grace Li/Parvathi Shanker). Despite a Navy clinch, Alexis Odom/Maya Michalski picked up a 6-3 win over Midshipmen Sylvia Eklund/Anna Jordaan, improving to 5-2 as a pair.

Navy clinched the match with singles wins on courts four (Mavor vs. Shanker), one (Odom vs. Tannenbaum) and five (Giovanna Sanchirico vs. Emma Gu) in order, but Kojonroj was the first to get off her court, claiming a 6-3, 6-0 win on line three over Navy's Kate Lee. The win marks Kojonroj's fifth straight-set victory this season, and fifth-consecutive, improving to 6-1 to open the spring.

Van Houweling, facing Midshipman Eklund on line two, fell 6-4 in the opening set and was down 2-1 in the second, but won five-straight games to claim a 6-2 win and force a third set, where she won six-straight after going down 1-0 on the way to a dominant three-set win.

Selvan, on line six facing Navy's Molly Bellia, split decisions in the opening two sets and was tied at 5-all in the third, when Navy clinched and the match was abandoned.
