Women’s Tennis Falls at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Capping off a long weekend of competition in Florida, the Air Force Women's Tennis team fell, 4-0, at Florida State's Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Air Force fell in doubles on lines one and three; Sophomore Nadia Kojonroj and junior Arianna Van Houweling went down 6-0 to an undefeated Maria Parra Romano/Eva Shaw. Sofia Mavor/Shivaani Selvan were down 4-1 to Seminole pair Tina Li/Maelie Monfils and managed two more games out of the set but fell, 6-3.

On court two, senior captain Alexis Odom and freshman Maya Michalski took a lead at 3-2 in their set against 5-0 Laura Putz/Millie Bissett. The pair trailed just 5-4 when FSU clinched the doubles point and the match went unfinished.

In singles, the Falcons fell on courts three (Van Houweling vs. Parra Romero), four (Mavor vs. Putz) and five (Michalski vs. Monfils) in order.

With the Falcons facing a sweep on five courts, Kojonroj, competing against nationally ranked No. 119 Mary Boyce Deatherage on line two, took a 4-2 lead in the opening set then traded game wins on the way to a 6-4 win. Kojonroj was on the cusp of earning a straight-set win, leading Deatherage 5-2 in the second set before FSU clinched the win on court five.
