
Women’s Tennis Falls to Montana State

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force Women's Tennis team, despite bagging a handful of wins on Saturday, ultimately fell, 4-3 to Montana State at Cadet East Gym.
Air Force earned its sixth team doubles victory, scoring wins on lines two and three over a Montana State squad which had lost only two doubles points on the season so far. Junior Arianna Van Houweling and freshman Shivaani Selvan, pairing up for the first time this season, battled to a 4-all tie against MSU's Marta Garcia Reboredo/Hudson Hawkins before taking the final two games to secure line two. Before Saturday, Garcia-Reboredo/Hawkins rode a three-match win streak which most recently included a 6-2 win over Denver's No. 29-ranked duo Wikander/Martinez.
On court three, sophomore Nadia Kojonroj and freshman Sofia Mavor, competing together for the first time since the fall season, clinched the doubles point for Air Force on a 6-3 win over Montana State's Nia Gelashvili/Angel Bean. The pair led by as much as 4-1 in the set, before Gelashvili/Bean claimed a back-to-back games. Kojonroj/Mavor took the 5-3 game and got a break on match point to secure doubles for the Falcons.
In singles, the Falcons fell on lines four (Giovanna Sanchirico vs. Gelashvili) and one (Kojonroj vs. Garcia-Reboredo) before Van Houweling picked up a three-set, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Bobcat Jojo Bach on court three to even things back up at 2-all and improve to 6-4 on the season. Montana State clinched the day behind a three-set battle on the second flight and a 6-3, 6-3 win for Hawkins over Selvan on court six.
Despite a win already in-hand for Montana State, Mavor and Bean played through their match. Mavor, who was down as much as 5-2 in her opening set against Bean, climbed back to earn a 7-5 set win to open the match, before downing Bean 6-3 in the second to secure her fourth win of the season.

To close nonconference play, Air Force Women's Tennis (4-7, 0-0 MW) hosts Omaha (March 1) and St. Thomas (March 9) before hitting the road on March 14 to open Mountain West competition at San Diego State.
