
Women’s Tennis Returns Home to Host Montana State

Air Force Women's Tennis is back in Cadet East Gym on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m., hosting Montana State at 12 p.m. MT.
Falcons at a Glance:
Opening the spring season, Air Force is a combined 14-11 (.460) in both doubles and singles action. In singles, Four Falcons currently sport a winning record, with sophomore Nadia Kojonroj leading the team at 6-1. Kojonroj, after falling in a three-set nail biter in the Falcons' season opener against Colorado, has won six-straight matches and five in straight sets. Junior Arianna Van Houweling (4-3) and sophomores Sofia Mavor (4-3) and Shivaani Selvan (4-2) follow up.
In doubles play, the Falcons' go-to number one and two duos, Van Houweling/Kojonroj and Alexis Odom/Maya Michalski both combine for 10 wins in as many matches.
A Look at Montana State:
The Bobcats, at 5-4, were riding a three-match win streak which included a shutout over Mountain West opponent Utah State, before being upended at No. 29 Denver, 7-0. Montana State is currently 13-8 in doubles action and 28-24 in singles.
Leading up to Saturday:
Air Force returns to the Academy looking to get back on track after a three-match trip to Florida in which the Falcons went 0-3 against No. 20 UCF (4-0), Navy (4-2) and Florida State (4-0). Prior to that, Air Force had won four of their previous five dual contests and fell narrowly at Gonzaga on Feb. 8.
Standout Falcons:
For the first time since March of the 2021-22 season, Air Force Women's Tennis swept weekly Mountain West superlatives for the week of Feb. 10, as Van Houweling and Selvan were named Mountain West Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
On the Falcons' two-match weekend in Spokane the weekend prior, Van Houweling went 2-0 in singles on the Falcons' second court, downing Eastern Washington's Anait Arutiunian, 6-1, 6-2, and Gonzaga's Rose Hayes, 6-2, 6-4. Versus Arutiunian, Van Houweling went up 3-0 and 5-0 in both respective sets before ceding a point.
In doubles play, Van Houweling and partner Nadia Kojonroj split doubles results in Spokane playing on the top court, defeating EWU's Arutiunian/Isabella Foshee, 6-4, and falling to Gonzaga's Emily Robertson/Safien Boulonois, 7-5.
Combined, Van Houweling is currently 4-1 in dual singles, having won four-straight matches and is 4-2 in doubles play with Kojonroj.
Selvan capped a 2-0 weekend in singles play on line five, sweeping match point on the way to a 6-2, 6-2 win over EWU's Zoe Pradel and downing Gonzaga's Ella Nielsen, 6-3, 6-1, while handing Nielsen her first loss of the spring. With the wins, Selvan improved to 4-2 in dual singles competition.
In doubles, No. 79-ranked doubles pair Selvan/Sofia Mavor led EWU pair Sara Vasic/Zoe Pradel, 6-5 and were tied 6-6 against Gonzaga's Norhan Hesham/Brooke Bittner before both matches were abandoned due to clinch.
As a team, Air Force closed the weekend with a 7-0 shutout over Eastern Washington (Feb. 7) and nearly completed a seismic comeback against Gonzaga, but fell 4-3 (Feb. 8).
Installation Access Requirements for Saturday's Match:
The U.S. Air Force Academy processes to access the installation continue to affect athletic events. While the installation remains open, if you do not have a DoD ID card you will need to obtain a pass to enter the base. Ticket holders wishing to attend can request a base pass by using the links below for each game. Once you register, you will receive a message with a QR code on your phone to present at the gate when entering the Academy. Fans will present game tickets when entering each venue. All ticketed/credentialed attendees will need to enter through the North Gate only to get to the Cadet Field House.
