
Falcons Claim Pair of Podium Finishes on Day Two of WAC Conference Championships

HOUSTON, TX., - The Falcons round out the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships with a pair of podium finishers, James Winterfield and Joe Christ, along with a score of 232 to hold steady in third.
Head coach Rob Clayton expressed, "The guys have been amazing…after a whole season where the guys have surprised, they continue to swim beyond expectation, here at the conference championships."
James Winterfield logged an exciting day in the pool, beginning with a new academy record of 1:45.13 in the 200 IM preliminaries. The junior went on to break his fresh record in finals, clocking a time of 1:44.50 to claim second place overall.
In the 200 IM preliminaries, Camden Swigart earned a time of 1:45.32 to take the 2nd all-time spot for the Air Force record books, while Tommy Nagle finished at 1:48.74 to make his way onto the all-time list in 10th and earn a 14th finish in finals.
"James and Camden have led the team, as they both had tremendous swims," said Clayton.
Taking third place overall in the 500 freestyle was Joe Christ. He touched the wall at 4:23.18 to make podium and shifted into the 8th all-time position at the Academy.
Tyler Surratt finished at 4:26.62 in the 500 freestyle for seventh place. In the B final of the same event, Tucker Rice completed the race at the top of his heat, with a time of 4:24.00, and claimed ninth place overall, while Ralph Fiscus took 14th at 4:28.21.
Clayton commented, "All our 500 freestyle guys, Tucker, Ralph, Joe and Tyler all had outstanding swims, and were led by Christ with his top-ten time and placing third."
The 50 freestyle saw Chase Dwornicki (20.58) and Jacob Bulseco (20.63) as the top Falcon finishers in 22nd and 23rd.
On the diving side, Brady Nichol notched a career best and Zone qualifying score of 333.80 to take fifth place on the 3-meter springboard.
" I am thrilled and so proud of the guys and all the work they have put in to get here. To see it all come to fruition is great," remarked Clayton. "We are not even halfway through the meet and we are hoping to make a run at the teams ahead of us, it will be a great day, and we will keep going."
Conference action will pick up on Friday February 28th at 10:30 a.m. CT/9:30 a.m. MT.
