Falcons Close Regular Season with Strong Showing at the First Chance Invitational

DENVER, Colo., - Air Force women's swimming posted a strong showing to close the regular season at the First Chance Invitational, hosted by Denver University, on Friday and Saturday.
The Falcons claimed ten top five placements and a winning first-place relay.
"It was exciting to see our DU group end their season with some fast swimming today," expressed head coach, Colleen Murphy. "We are especially proud of the leadership of our four seniors who ended their Academy swimming careers!"
The 200 freestyle relay team comprised of Addie Orris, Audrey Laganelli, Sophia Pedersoli, and Darien Tompkins finished at 1:35.47 to take first.
Maeve Rosko completed the 200 backstroke at a season-best 2:02.12, for a second place finish. Teammates Kaitlyn Surratt (2:07.00) and Kat Putchinski (2:10.10) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
With a season-best time of 57.49, Orris won the 100 backstroke.
The 200 IM saw Ella Rudik complete the race in second, after clocking a time of 2:08.66.
In the 200 fly, Grace Nickell earned a spot in second place, with a time of 2:06.17, while claiming third place at 5:08.06 in the 500 freestyle.
Taking fourth place in the 100 fly, Darien Tompkins notched a time of 56.47.
Touching the wall at 57.32, her personal best time in the 100 backstroke, senior Rosko took a fourth-place finish as the only Air Force swimmer to complete the race in the top five.
Putchinski locked in a time of 4:35.32 to finish fifth in the 400 IM, the only Falcon to be represented in the top five.
Up next, the Falcons gear up to compete at the Mountain West Championships in Houston, TX, from February 19th-22nd.
