Falcons Open Action at NCBA Western Regional

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- With a 175-pound victory from junior Neo Takazawa, the Air Force boxing team wrapped up action at the opening night of the National Collegiate Boxing Association's Western Regional, which is being held at the Academy for the first time in recent history. Air Force went 1-2 during the quarterfinal round of competition on Thursday (March 6) night.
In the final match-up of the night, Takazawa earned a unanimous decision over Santa Clara's Jose Magallanes to earn a spot in the regional semifinal for the second-straight year.
Sophomores Sebastyan Correa Rios and Noah Gilley also competed in the regional quarterfinals on Thursday – their first appearances on the regional stage. Correa Rios dropped a decision in his 132-pound contest with Parker Chang of USC, while Gilley lost his 156-pound quarterfinal against Nevada's Nathan Nichols by decision.
The NCBA Western Regional continues tomorrow (Match 7) with the semifinal round of competition in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. The 22 second-round bouts are slated to begins at 1:00 p.m. (MT). Tickets ($10) can be purchased at AFTickets.com.
