
Air Force Falls to the Lancers in Game Two

At the dish, Tripp Garrish and Alex Adams both finished 2-for-4, with Garrish recording an RBI. Chase Spencer batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double. The lone hit for Zach Peters came in the form of a solo homer.
Defensively, Bowen Brantingham took his second start of the season, throwing one strikeout and allowing two runs off one hit, across 1.2 innings pitched. Cranz Smelcer (0-3) was credited with the loss after entering in relief for 1.1 innings and giving up three runs with one strikeout. The Falcons saw appearances from Sam Hentges, Davis Rhyne, and Joey Collier in the middle innings. Ethan Dillinger threw one full inning and issued a pair of hits and no runs. To close, Marcus Downing made his collegiate debut and marked two strikeouts and no runs or hits allowed.
After a scoreless first inning, California Baptist plated two runs in the bottom of two, 2-0.
The Falcons took their first lead of the series, 3-2, in the top of the third. With one out, T.J. Oster reached on a Lancer error and Chase Spencer followed with his first extra base hit of the season, a double to put runners in scoring position. On a sacrifice ground out, Ben Niednagel sent Oster to plate the first Air Force run. Walker Zapp recorded his first triple of the year, scoring Spencer, and went home on an RBI single to the pitcher by Garrish.
 In the bottom of the same frame, the Birds went three up, three down on a foul out, fly out, and strikeout from Smelcer.
On the first pitch in the top of the fourth inning, Zach Peters launched a solo shot over the left field fence, just the second home run of his career, to put Air Force up 4-2.
The Lancers answered with back-to-back homers and an RBI single to reclaim a 5-4 lead, in the bottom of four.
The bottom of the fifth saw California Baptist plate six runs for an 11-4 lead.
A two-run homer extended the Lancer advantage to 13-4, in the bottom of the sixth frame.
In the bottom of eight, Downing notched his first three outs for AF, catching two Lancers looking.
The Falcons took one run back for a final score of 13-5, in the top of nine. Pinch hitter, Christian Taylor, drew a two-out walk and advanced to second. To bring him home, Spencer singled up the middle for an RBI.
The series finale between Air Force and California Baptist will take place on Sunday March 8th, at 12:00 p.m. PT/1:00 p.m. MT.
