
AF Baseball Narrowly Falls to CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif., - The Falcons (4-12) finish up their time in California after narrowly falling to California Baptist (7-9), 4-2, in game three at James W. Totman Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Across the game, Air Force batters put five hits in the book, while the pitchers struck out eight.
Zach Peters marked the most hits for Air Force and finished 2-for-4. T.J. Oster and Alex Adams both went 1-for-3 with one RBI a piece.
Easton Miller (0-2) took the start on the mound, throwing two strikeouts and allowing two runs off three hits, across 3.1 innings. In relief, Gaines Estridge went for 2 full innings and recorded a single strikeout and gave up a pair of runs. John Mitchell posted an impressive outing, closing the last 2.2 innings for AF, with five strikeouts and just one hit.
A trio of ground outs from the Falcon defense in the bottom of the first inning held the Lancers scoreless.
California Baptist was first on the board, 2-0, in the bottom of the second.
The catcher, Walker Zapp, combined with second baseman Oster to throw out two CBU runners stealing, in the bottom of three.
In the top of the fifth inning, Air Force broke onto the board, 2-1. Zach Peters led off with a single to right field and was followed by a walked Luke Elmore. On a sacrifice bunt from Landon Boyd, both base runners advanced. Oster sent Peters across the plate on a ground out to CBU's pitcher.
Estridge went three up, three down in the bottom of five, on a pair of ground outs and a swinging strikeout.
The Lancers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, off an RBI double to extend their lead to 4-1.
Air Force sealed the final score at 4-2 with a single run scored in the top of the ninth inning. The first batter of the frame, Zapp opened with a first-pitch triple and was brought in to score on a ground out by Adams.
The Falcons will head back to home turf for a midweek matchup against South Dakota State on Wednesday March 12, at 2 p.m. MT.
