Falcons Advance Six to National Finals

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. -- Six members of the Air Force boxing team secured their spot in the finals of the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships this evening (April 11), as they claimed semifinal victories at the Lawrenceburg Events Center. Overall, the Falcons split the second night of competition with a 6-6 record.
The women advanced four into the finals on Friday, as sophomore Naomi Brabham, junior Elise Bell, and the freshman duo of Maya Lee and Sela Panuve all captured victories. Brabham kicked off the night with a 112-pound win over Daisy Torreones of Army West Point, while Bell (132 pounds, Emily Spencer) and Panuve (156 pounds, Iroda Muhammadiyez) collected victories over contenders from Navy. Lee rounded out the women's quartet with a 147-pound win over Penn State's Marisa Temoshok.
On the men's side, senior Luke Kohout advanced to his third-straight national final with a 147-pound win over Army West Point's Santos Riccardi, while junior Thomas Kensinger made his NCBA debut with a heavyweight win over Crandall's Andrew Macklin.
Six other Falcons also competed in tonight's semifinal round and secured NCBA All-America honors with bronze medal finishes on the national stage. Seniors Cass Rosa fell in her 119-pound bout to Army West Point's Michelle Hon, while classmate Peyton Glenn (139 pounds, Annika Scott), sophomore Julianna Morris (125 pounds, Lia Stokes) and freshman Nebi Tsarni (165 pounds, Emmanuella Ebiuwhe) also dropped decisions to boxers from the Black Knights' squad. On the men's side, junior Duong Tran lost a 125-pound decision to Miami-Ohio's Daniel Gomez and sophomore Ellison Taylor fell in his 165-pound contest to Penn State's Donovan Quinn.
The winners from tonight's bouts will return to the Lawrenceburg Events Center tomorrow (April 12) for the finals of the NCBA Championships. The national finals will be divided into two sessions – the first beginning at 1:00 p.m., and the second at 6:00 p.m. (all times Eastern).
