AF Baseball Falls to Fresno State in Game Two

FRESNO, Calif., - Air Force (15-24, 7-10) dropped the second game of the series to Fresno State (19-19, 12-5), 5-1, on Friday evening at Bob Bennett Stadium. The Falcons tallied four hits and struck out four Bulldogs.

Christian Taylor was the lone Falcon responsible for a run, as he hit his third homer of the season. Chase Spencer, T.J. Oster, and Ben Niednagel were responsible for the other trio of hits.

On the mound, Cranz Smelcer (1-4) threw a career-high 6.2 innings with two strikeouts and five runs allowed in his sixth start of the season. Ethan Dillinger logged 1.1 innings in relief, striking out a pair of batters and giving up just one hit.

The Falcon offense started hot with a solo home run from Christian Taylor, the second batter of the inning, in the top of the first, 1-0.

Fresno State answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the same frame to pull ahead, 2-1.

In the bottom of the second, Fresno State extended their lead to 3-1 after walking in a run.

The Air Force defense held FSU to no runs in the third and fourth, highlighted by a throw out at the plate from Zach Peters in right field.

The Bulldog's second homer of the evening put them up 4-1, in the bottom of five.

The bottom of the stretch saw Fresno State put one more run across the plate on an RBI single, 5-1. Dillinger closed the frame with a swinging strikeout.

In the bottom of the sixth and the eighth, the Falcon defense went three up, three down.

The Falcons look for a series win over the Bulldogs in the finale on Saturday April 19 at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
