Air Force Falls in Finale to Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash., - The Falcons (18-30, 10-14) fell in the series finale, 10-2, to Washington State (17-29, 10-14) on Sunday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field. Air Force picked up eight total hits and a trio of strikeouts.

Chase Spencer posted a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a homer, one run scored, and accounted for the Falcons' two RBIs.

On the mound, Ethan Dillinger (0-2) opened for Air Force. The lefty tallied three strikeouts but allowed six runs across 3.1 innings. Following a one-out appearance from Gunner Gilmore, Gaines Estridge took over. The sophomore logged 3.1 innings and gave up just two hits and one run. The closer, Sam Hentges, threw the final inning without a hit or run.

Dillinger struck out a pair of batters and T.J. Oster recorded a ground out for a three up, three down bottom of the first.

The Cougars opened scoring early with a sacrifice foul out, 1-0 in the home half of the second.

On another sacrifice fly, WSU added one to their score in the bottom of three, 2-0.

Washington State recorded a seven-run bottom of four to extend their advantage to 9-0.

In the top of the fifth, Air Force finally put runs on the board but still trailed 9-2. To reach base, Oster sent a single through the left side. Spencer homered off the right field foul pole to score the pair of runs.

AF defense marked a clean frame behind Estridge in the bottom of the fifth and seventh, to hold the Cougars.

A solo shot from WSU took the final score to 10-2 in the bottom of the sixth.

The Falcons return to Erdle Field, hosting New Mexico in their final home series and senior weekend from Friday May 9-Sunday May 11.
