COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following another strong weekend in the throwing circle, Air Force junior Texas Tanner was named the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on May 6 – marking the third time this season that the Sheridan, Wyo., native has been honored by the conference office.
Facing off against several conference contenders at the Doug Max Invitational, Tanner picked up first-place finishes in the hammer and discus, while adding a top-three finish in the shot put. The junior opened the day with a victory in the hammer throw – posting a mark of 73.67 meters (241'9") on his final attempt to win the 15-thrower competition and add nearly six meters to the previous Meet Record. Tanner, who finished second among the collegiate field – and third overall – in the shot put (18.20, 59'8½"), needed just one throw to win the discus, as his mark of 51.28 meters (168'3") led the Falcons to a 1-2 finish in the 23-thrower event.
The Falcons close out the regular season this Friday (May 9), when they host their only home meet of the year – the Air Force Twilight Open – at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex. Action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. (MT) and admission is free.
