Air Force Drops Road Match at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo., - The Falcons (0-2-0) dropped their first road match, 4-1, to Colorado (1-0-1) on Sunday afternoon, August 17, at Prentup Field. Across the 90 minutes, Air Force compiled 15 shots with eight on goal, a goal from Peyton Ferrell and a trio of saves by Kylie McElroy. Caeli Sherman and Kendall Rippley each recorded a pair of shots on goal.

"I was proud of the fight our young grouped showed today against a very athletic opponent," expressed Head Coach Laura Busby. "We wanted these games on our schedule so we would be prepared for conference. We certainly learned some lessons today which will make us better in the long run including creating chances, but we will need to finish those chances moving forward if we want to win games."

At the start of the first half, the Falcons found themselves even with the Buffs, seeing four shots on goal but could not break through. Air Force defenders held strong pressure over Colorado until the 15^th minute when the Buffs shot off the goalpost, surprising McElroy in goal and taking the lead. A penalty by AF in the box gave CU the chance to capitalize off a penalty kick that hit left into the goal, opposite McElroy's lean for a 2-0 advantage at 26'.

Colorado came out of the locker room ready to go after halftime, scoring their third goal off a corner kick with a sneak, past McElroy. At 64', Lauren Steinlage crossed the ball from the right side for an assist as she set up Ferrell for a perfect finish into the back of the net, scoring Air Force's sole goal of the match. Following four more Falcon shots, the goal momentum fell, and CU finished with a late header to score the final goal of the afternoon in the 85'.

The Falcons challenged through the end of the second half, but were unable to trim the deficit.

Next week, Air Force heads to West Point, N.Y. for a service academy matchup at Army, on Thursday August 21 at 5 p.m. MT. Following that match, the Falcons travel to play Rutgers on Sunday August 24 in Piscataway, N.J.
