
Air Force Falls at Northwestern, 2-1

The 'Cats controlled much of the first half, taking 14 first-half shots while holding Air Force to just one attempt in the first 45 minutes. The first strike of the match came in the 42nd minute as Joe Suchecki finished bottom right off the left foot.
Air Force sophomore goalie C3C Brody Smith registered three saves in the peppering. The Falcons' one attempt in the first half was taken by C3C Abhinav Ramaraju.
The Falcons went down two-nil just seven minutes out of the half (51:59) as Aaron O'Reilly scored to the bottom left off the right foot with help from Alejandro Martinez-Santamaria. The assist was Martinez-Santamaria's second of the match.
C4C Ben Brophy helped the Falcons back to their offense, taking a shot on target attempt in 72'. As the clocked wound down, AF had more success keeping the ball in the attacking third. C3C Marcus Goni, Air Force's lone scorer from last match, took an attempt at 83. Just over two minutes later (85:51) team captain C3C Oliver Becker fed C4C Quinn Muderlak for the strike to the top-right of the frame. The points mark career firsts for the duo.
With the clock ticking closer to end time, Goni was able to fire off one more attempt to equalize in the 88', but the shot went wide. At the final whistle, NU held the 2-1 advantage and took 22 shots to AF's five. The Falcons attempted two shots on target while the 'Cats put seven on goal.
Smith was credited with five saves and averages 6.5 saves per game after the first weekend. He holds a .722 save-percentage heading into the third match.
Next up, Air Force opens Cadet Soccer Stadium for the first time in 2025 as the Falcons host SIU-Edwardsville on Thursday, August 28. Action is slated for 5 pm MT.
