Falcons Earn Title Bids on Day Two of Bedford Cup

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force Women's Tennis continued to shine through day two of the Bedford Cup, as three Falcons qualified for singles title matches while earning wins across the board in doubles play.
Opening the day with two rounds of doubles, all four of Air Force's pairings scored at least one win on the day. Senior Arianna Van Houweling and junior Nadia Kojonroj opened with a 6-4 win over Texas Tech's Ella Brownback/Polina Sleptsova, before falling in the semifinals to Colorado's Lani Brotman/Yukiko Ikedo, 6-0.
In the Red doubles bracket, sophomores Sofia Mavor/Shivaani Selvan, scoring a bye in the consolation quarterfinals, then earned a 6-3 victory against New Mexico's Yu Yun Tsai/Sarah L'allier. The pair will compete in tomorrow's third-place match against Texas Tech's Elena Daskalova/Xenia Logvin.
Freshmen Yule Kang and Jaraihlyn Rhoades dropped their first match of the day, then scored a 6-2 win over teammate Joselyn Limbago and CU junior Willow Gretsch. Limbago/Gretsch opened with a 6-3 win over UNM pair Ramona Petre/Maria Matsoukatidi
Completing one round of singles in the afternoon while navigating intermittent rain delays, Air Force competitors went 6-4 overall. Kang and Rhoades both advanced into Sunday title matches, staying undefeated on the weekend (3-0) after wins over Colorado senior Anya Nelson and Idaho State's Emmy Richards, respectively.
Senior Abby Cotuna continues to make a statement in her first tennis competition as a Falcon since the 2023 season. Cotuna, after an opening round victory and withdrawal due to injury in the Charlie bracket, scored a 6-3, 6-4 semifinal win over Denver's Yunfei Cai pits Cotuna in a Charlie final against Idaho's Jessica Matthews on Sunday afternoon. Senior Arianna Van Houweling (Alpha) and sophomores Sofia Mavor (Bravo) and Shivaani Selvan (Charlie) each picked up consolation victories, improving to 5-1, 4-2 and 4-2.
