Golfers set to face Army and Navy in CIC Cup, Sept. 30-Oct. 1

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team goes head-to-head against Army and Navy in the third annual Commander-in-Chief's Cup, Tuesday-Wednesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, at the Winged Foot Golf Course in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
THE FORMAT: Golfers will play 18 holes each day on the par 70, 7,477-yard course. Unlike most collegiate tournaments, each team will have eight golfers compete with the top six counting toward the team score.
THE LINEUP: The Air Force lineup this week is: 1-Brooks Morrell; 2--Eric Liveringhouse; 3- Ted Davenport; 4--Eli Huntington; 5-Carson Baker; 6-Ben Zeiler; 7-Jackson Scaletta; 8-Alvaro Fonseca
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: In the first year of the CIC Cup in 2023, Army and Navy tied with 1360 (with Army winning a playoff) at the Robert Trent Jones Club in Gainesville, Va. Air Force was third at 1373. Isaac Layne was the top Falcon, tying for second at 223 (70-76-77). In 2024, the tournament was moved to the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Country Club and shortened to 36 holes due to weather. Army won with an 850, followed by Navy (863) and Air Force (875). Eli Huntington was the top Falcon, placing fifth overall, with a 144 (even - 74-70).
ABOUT THE COURSE: The historic Winged Foot Golf Course, located northeast of New York City, opened in 1923. The course has hosted six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Women's Opens, two U. S. Amateurs, a PGA Championship and a U.S. Senior Open. Most recently, Bryson DeChanbeau won the U.S. Open in 2020. Winged Foot will host its seventh U.S. Open in 2028
LOOKING AT THE FALCONS: After two rounds this season, juniors Carson Baker and Eli Huntington lead the team with a 74.67 stroke average (among players who have played in all six rounds). Senior Eric Liveringhouse is third at 74.83. Air Force's season-best round of 282 (-6) came in the second round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The best road round was a 287 (+3) at the Folds of Honor at American Dunes in Michigan. The best round of the season was a 69 (-3) by Liveringhouse at the GMFI. The best road round was a 70 by Huntington at the Folds of Honor.
LAST WEEK: Senior Eric Liveringhouse led the Air Force golf team at the 56th Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 20-22. Liveringhouse shot a 73 (+1) in the final round on the Blue Course, and was the top Falcon over 54 holes at 217 (+1). Junior Eli Huntington was second on the team at 220 (+4), followed by junior Carson Baker (221), senior Ted Davenport (229) and senior Brooks Morrell (235). Idaho won the team title with an 841 (-23). Gonzaga was second (851) and UC San Diego was third (852). Air Force was 21st at 887. In the GMFI Individual event on the Silver Course, freshman Ben Zeiler was the top Falcon, tying for 13th overall, with a 214 (-2). Zeiler shot 73-68-73.
