Nichol and Wilson Lead Air Force on Day One of Front Range Invite

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Air Force men's swimming and diving opened the regular season Friday at the Front Range Invite, highlighted by a pair of diving victories from Brady Nichol and a first-place finish in the 200 breast by Tanner Wilson.
"It was a great start to the season for us," said head swimming coach Rob Clayton. "Tanner was outstanding and dominated the 200 breast, and the divers were absolutely sensational at the Academy. We learned a lot today and will continue to grow this season."
At Cadet Natatorium, Nichol swept the men's diving events, winning both the 1-meter with a score of 312.20 and the platform with 310.00 points.
Making his collegiate debut, Connor Sweeney added a pair of runner-up finishes, scoring 285.00 on the 1-meter and 291.95 on the platform.
In the pool, Wilson paced the Falcons with a dominant performance in the 200 breast, clocking a winning time of 2:01.85 and finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the runner-up. Teammates Brandon Cho (2:08.07) and Cole Wilson (2:08.10) also landed in the top five.
C3C Jordan Falls added a second-place finish in the 50 free, touching the wall at 20.70. Falls later collected another top-five placement in the 100 free, placing fourth in 46.84.
Wilson added another podium finish in the 200 IM, earning third with a time of 1:54.31.
Team captain Garrett Kennedy also secured third in the 200 back after clocking a 1:52.78, while Luke Green placed fifth in 1:56.42 in his collegiate debut.
The 200 free relay team of Joe Christ, Falls, Wilson and Green finished third with a combined time of 1:23.94.
Junior Evan Witte turned in a pair of top-five finishes, placing fourth in the 500 free at 4:42.21 before finishing fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.63.
Air Force also earned fourth in the 400 medley relay, as Matthew Doty, Wilson, Jonas Dark and Falls combined for a time of 3:21.73.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, for the final day of the Front Range Invite. Swimming will continue in Fort Collins, while diving returns to Cadet Natatorium. Competition begins at 11 a.m. MT.
