Falcons Strike Five Times in Road Win at UNLV, 5-3

Offensively, Jost led the way with five points on two goals and an assist, marking her first multi-goal match since her hat trick at San Jose State last season. Chase Borntreger, Jordan Dillingham and Kendall Rippley each added a goal, while Addie Doyle, Clara Teigland and Ashley Yenawine each recorded an assist.
Sydney Nelms started the match in goal, making three saves in the first half. Trishelle Lopez took over in the second half, tying her career high with six saves while allowing three UNLV goals.
"I really liked our mentality in the first half," expressed head coach Laura Busby. "As a result we scored some great goals."
Air Force came out on the attack, building a commanding 4-0 lead before halftime. After earning four corner kicks, Jost capitalized on the fifth, curling a shot directly from the right corner and into the net to give the Falcons an early advantage.
One minute later, at the 23' mark, Doyle delivered a perfectly placed cross to Borntreger, who slid the ball into the net with her right foot to double the Air Force lead. The Falcons kept their foot on the gas, and just 27 seconds later, Jost converted a penalty kick, sending the ball toward the left post and out of reach of the UNLV keeper. The back-to-back goals marked the fastest two goals in Air Force program history and gave Jost her second goal of the night.
Air Force continued to control the momentum heading into the break, adding one more goal before halftime. Dillingham capitalized on another corner kick when the ball bounced off Yenawine to Dillingham to flick behind her back and into the net for the Falcons' fourth goal of the half.
Coming out of halftime, UNLV put its first goal on the board in the 59th minute to cut the deficit to 4-1. Only 24 seconds later, Air Force answered right back with its fifth goal of the night. Jost and Teigland connected with a quick one-touch sequence to find Rippley, who bounced her shot off the right post and into the net to restore the Falcons' four-goal advantage.
The Rebels continued to battle, using their momentum to add a second goal in the 63rd minute and a third in the 66th. Despite the late push from UNLV, Air Force held on for the 5-3 victory and their second conference win of the season.
Busby said, "Credit goes to UNLV for battling back in the second half and asking questions of us defensively. Regardless, road points are hard to come by this season and I am proud of our group for accomplishing the mission tonight."
The Falcons return to USAFA to host Grand Canyon in a Cancer Awareness match on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. MT.
