Women’s Tennis Falls to NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Air Force Women's Tennis, playing in the second match of a back-to-back weekend in Flagstaff, fell, 5-2 to host Northern Arizona on Sunday morning in Flagstaff.
Air Force opened the day on a doubles victory on line one, but was unable to secure a second, as the Falcons went down on courts three and two in order. Arianna Van Houweling and Shivaani Selvan closed out the weekend 2-0 as a pair, claiming a 6-2 doubles win against NAU's Natalie Rainke/Elen Jantacova. Yule Kang/Maya Michalski (L, 6-3) and Sofia Mavor/Abby Cotuna (L, 6-4) both dropped sets to give NAU a 1-0 advantage at the start of singles.
Selvan, competing against NAU's Mia Wolter on court six, scored a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win to notch her first dual win of the season. Selvan's victory brought Air Force back to even with NAU, but the Lumberjacks rattled off four straight match wins on courts one (Patrycja Niewiadomska vs. Cotuna – 6-3, 6-2) and two (Andrea Noguera vs. Mavor – 6-3, 6-4) to threaten a Lumberjack clinch.
Van Houweling secured the first singles victory of her senior season, downing Elen Jantacova, 7-5, 6-1 to pull back within a point. Air Force fell short on the final two courts, as Kojonroj (vs. Leontina Stojanovic, 6-4, 6-3) and Kang (vs. Rainke, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6) went down to solidify a 5-2 loss.
