Air Force With Dominant 6-1 Win Over Gardner-Webb

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis defeated Gardner-Webb (5-2), 6-1, Friday night at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts.

Air Force won the double point and went 5-1 in singles play to roll to the win.

The Falcons opened with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles for the doubles point. Phillip Deaton and Matthew Staton won at No. 3 over Bourne/Van Wijk 6-4 and then AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf defeated Patry/Zeiger 7-5 at No. 2 to clinch the point.

In singles, after dropping the No. 1 singles match, the Falcons went on to win the final five matches to roll to the win. Tied 1-1, Deaton won at No. 2 over Boyd Schreiber in straigh sets at 6-2, 6-1 to put the Falcons up 2-1.

Moore then won at No. 3 over Kaua Cressoni in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Langdon Tingleaf then clinched the match with a win at No. 4 over Johan Van Wijk 6-0, 1-6, 6-4.

Tyler Leaird picked up his first dual singles win of the season, winning at No. 6 over Adam Patry in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Staton capped the night with a win at No. 5 over Noah Zeiger 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).

"Pack the house tonight was incredible!," head coach Evan Urbina said. "We are so grateful to the fans and cadets who supported our team. The doubles point was back and forth, and I'm glad Phil and Matt--who were playing together for the first time--were able to execute the fundamentals and get us going. In singles, Langdon got his first clinch in a third setter. Proud of the win, and we're looking forward to Sunday against NAU.

Air Force returns to action Sunday, Feb. 22, hosting Northern Arizona.
