
Women’s Tennis Goes Down in Road Doubleheader Versus Arkansas, Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - Air Force Women's Tennis, taking on ranked SEC opponents No. 62 Arkansas and No. 7 Oklahoma, fell 4-1 and 4-0, respectively, on Sunday afternoon at OU's Headington Tennis Center in Norman.
Versus Arkansas:
Air Force opened the day strong, claiming a 1-0 lead over the Razorbacks after clinching the doubles point on courts two and one.
Senior Arianna Van Houweling and sophomore Shivaani Selvan picked up a 6-2 win over Arkansas' Jimena Gomez Alonso/Brooke Schafer to give the Falcons the edge in doubles. Playing No. 25 Caroli Gomez Alonso/Anet Koskel, court one duo Abby Cotuna/Sofia Mavor played to a 4-all tie before battling through the final two games to clinch the doubles point over the Razorbacks. On line three, Falcons Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades were mounting a rally against Arkansas' Arina Babenko/Alex Panagiotidou and led 40-30 in the 5-4 game when the Falcons clinched doubles.
Arkansas swept singles, scoring wins on courts three (Koskel vs. Mavor – 6-1, 6-0), five (Babenko vs. Michalski – 6-2, 6-2) one (No. 15 Caroli Gomez vs. Cotuna – 6-3, 6-4) and four (Panagiotidou vs. Yule Kang – 6-2, 7-6 (2)) to clinch a 4-1 Razorback victory.
Versus Oklahoma:
Air Force dropped doubles, going down on courts two (No. 44 Evialina Laskevich/Edda Mamedova vs. Van Houweling/Selvan – 6-2) and one (No. 1 Roisin Gilheany/Gloriana Nahum vs. Cotuna/Mavor – 6-2) in order to give OU an early lead.
The Sooners clinched a 4-0 shutout on lines four (Salakthip Ounmuang vs. Kang – 6-0, 6-1), five (Gloriana Nahum vs. Michalski – 6-1, 6-0) and three (Chlor Noel vs. Mavor – 6-1, 6-4) in order.
"I am very proud of this team's fight," head coach Taylor Hollander said. "They played two quality teams back to back and left everything on the court. We get to make the trip home with nothing but positive takeaways."
