COLONIE, N.Y. – Air Force was outscored by Siena, 21-9, in Tuesday morning non-conference action at the indoor facility of Afrim's Sports Park. The Falcons, on a three-game cold streak, are now 1-3 in the early season.
Due to wintry weather, the game originally scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. at Hickey Field, was moved up to 10 a.m. start time in an indoor bubble.
Air Force was held to a lackluster three-goal first half while Siena put up four goals in the first and second quarters. An 8-2 scoring disparity in the third quarter only worsened the situation for the trailing Falcons. AF had its most prolific quarter in the final 15 minutes, but was still outscored, 5-4.
Falcon scoring leader C4C Christian Schweiger notched his third hat trick in four showings, upping his season tally to 10 goals. Teammates Cole Rassas and Ben Heidt tallied two goals apiece while Luke Vrsansky and Henry Spencer rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Air Force took 37 shots in the game led by Schweiger and Rassas with a game-high nine shots each. Rassas' nine shots marked a career high. Six of Schweiger's shots were on goal.
Falcons LSM Cole Cunningham picked up a season-best eight ground balls and caused two turnovers. Senior teammate Connor Alberston notched two CTOs and picked up a pair of ground balls.
Rogan Kane, Air Force's lead face off specialist, went .500 on the day (13-26), picking up six ground balls in the effort.
Siena (3-1) had 11 scorers totaling their 21 goals led by Conor Hufnagel and Travis Fry with a hat trick each. Patrick Radmoski, the MAAC Player of the Week last weekend, tallied seven points via five helps and a pair of goals.
Next up, the Falcons continue the fight in New York and will take on Marist on Saturday, February 28. Action at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field is scheduled for noon ET. Air Force is on a four-game winning streak against the Red Foxes dating back to 2018. Marist has yet to beat Air Force on their home field.
