Falcons Close Second Day of MPSF Championships, Winterfield Breaks 200 IM Record

PHARR, TX., - On the second day of the MPSF Championships, Air Force men's swim and dive recorded four podium finishes and 11 top ten placements, along with a school record on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons currently lead the competition with a score of 298.5.
"We had a tremendous day today," said head coach Rob Clayton. "The guys are doing amazing with three divers in the top eight, a top three finish by Tyler in the 00 free, and four of the top eight IMers led the way."
Senior James Winterfield reset his own 200 IM record with a new fastest time of 1:43.99 and earned a silver finish. Camden Swigart (1:44.87) and Matthew Doty (1:45.26) followed in third and fourth with top ten Air Force times. Jonas Dark placed seventh at 1:47.28.
Clayton expressed, "James and Camden were amazing in their final 200 IM, setting the top two times in AFA history."
Lucas Gerten collected his second podium finish of the meet, taking third on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 339.70. Brady Nichol (312.70) and Jack Roby (282.20) joined him in the top ten, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Distance swimmer Tyler Surratt represented the Falcons in the 500 free with a third-place finish at 4:22.57, the sixth fastest time in Air Force history. At 4:26.55, Joe Christ took seventh and with his time of 4:27.06, Tucker Rice earned ninth.
Jordan Falls placed highest for the Falcons in the 50 free, clocking an eighth-place time of 20.02, the ninth fastest time in Academy history.
"I am very proud of how hard the guys fought today," Clayton said. "We are excited to be where we are in team standings and look forward to a big day tomorrow!"
The MPSF Championships will resume on Friday February 27 at 10 a.m. CT/9 a.m. MT.
