
Air Force Falls At Grand Canyon

Air Force men's basketball (3-19, 0-11 MW) fell to Grand Canyon (15-7, 8-3 MW), 81-57, in Mountain West action Tuesday night at Global Credit Union Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. Freshman forward Riley Dering led Air Force with a career-high 15 points and five rebounds.
A sluggish first-half had Air Force down big at the half, 48-18. Grand Canyon shot 60 percent from the field in the opening half, knocking down five three's. The Falcons were cold from the field as 32 percent from the field in the opening half.
Air Force played significantly better in the second half, out-scoring the Lopes 39-33. The Falcons shot 45 percent from the field and went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line in the second half.
Makai Williams and Brian Moore Jr. paced four GCU players in double-figures scoring with 15 points each. The Lopes shot 53 percent from the field for the game.
Air Force had three players in double figures, led by the emerging Dering. The freshman shot 7-of-10 from the field and also led the team with two steals and a blocked shot. Freshman Lucas Hobin scored 12 points, knocking down 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Freshman Ethan Greenberg continued to shoot well from outside, hitting three three's to finish the night with 11 points.
Freshman Kam Sanders added five assists and tied for team-lead with five rebounds. As a group, the Falcon freshmen accounted for 47 points, its second-best total output as a group this season.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 7 hosting San Diego State. Tip time is 6 pm MT from Clune Arena. The game will be televised on FS1.
