Air Force Drops Contest To Navy In Irvine

Air Force men's tennis dropped a 4-1 contest to Navy (16-14) Friday afternoon at the Racquet Club or Irvine in Irvine, Calif.

Sophomore Langdon Tingleaf led the way for the Falcons, with a win at No. 5. Tingleaf defeated George Cutone in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Navy swept doubles play to earn the point. The Midshipmen went up 2-1 by taking the first singles match at No. 1, with Herrick Legaspi defeating Phillip Deaton.

Tingleaf made it a 2-1 match with his win at No. 5. Navy then won at No. 4, with J.J. Etterbeek defeating Matthew Staton. The match was clinched at No. 2, with Aniketh Ayinala defeating Jack Brown in three sets.

Head Coach Evan Urbina recapping the match:
"It was tough match for the Falcons today. We had an extremely slow start in doubles and our energy and body language needed improvement. In singles, we battled. Langdon continued to play offensive and was dictating play and moving forward the entire match. It was great to see him get the win. On the other courts, we kept fighting but were unable to hold leads and finish points. Navy played great today and we're looking forward to our match against UCI tomorrow. I believe competing gives you amazing opportunities to learn, grow, and prove your leadership-this experience will be exactly that for this team."

Air Force returns to action tomorrow, March 14, at UC Irvine. The match begins at noon PT.
