
Women’s Tennis Rolls to Third-Straight Win

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – On Friday, Air Force Women's Tennis earned a 4-1 victory over Nevada, marking its third straight and a 1-0 start to Mountain West play.
The Falcons picked up a 1-0 lead behind their fourth-straight doubles point and fifth in the last six matches. Court three pairing Maya Michalski/Jariahlyn Rhoades stuck first. The pair built up a 3-1 over Nevada's Kariman Buqai/Petra Janigova which held up all the way to a 6-3 result, notching a 3-0 start to dual play for the Falcon duo.
Senior Arianna Van Houweling and sophomore Shivaani Selvan improved to 6-3 as a duo, defeating Wolf Pack's line two pairing Amahee Charrier/Kennedy Robinson. Tied at 3-all, Van Houweling/Selvan picked up the 4-3 and 5-3 games on the way to a 6-4 doubles-clinching win – Their third in as many matches for the Falcons.
For the second time this week, freshman Yule Kang was first to secure victory in singles play, picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Janigova. In the opening set, Kang gave up an early game to Janigova to tie 1-all, before claiming four-straight for a 5-1 advantage. Kang held on to a two-game advantage throughout the second set on the way to a third-straight win – All earned in straight sets.
Van Houweling was next. The senior improved to 4-1 in dual singles behind an impressive second-set comeback against Marlene Foerster. After taking a 6-1 first set, Van Houweling, down 4-1 in the second, made a furious rally to take a 5-4 lead. After Foerster tied at 5-all, Van Houweling took the final two games to claim a 3-1 Air Force lead in the match.
Mavor clinched the Falcon win, scoring a three-set victory over Nevada senior Silvia Maria Costache, ending a five-match win streak for her Wolf Pack opponent. Mavor fell 6-3 in the opening set on line three, then broke a 3-all deadlock with Costache in the second, holding a lead the rest of the way to a 6-4 second set. In the third, Mavor put Costache away, building a 5-1 lead before clinching an Air Force victory in a 6-2 final set.
