Falcons shoot second best tournament score of season

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force golf team posted its second-best tournament of the season at the UC San Diego Invitational, Tuesday, March 24, at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Calif.

In the final round, Air Force shot a 296 for a three-round score of 873 (+9), just one stroke shy of the team's best tournament of the season (Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 16-18). The 873 was also the Falcons' best ever at the UCSD Invitational.

Loyola Marymount, the highest ranked team in the tournament, won the 17-team event with a 54-hole score of 846 (-18). UC Santa Barbara was second at 853 (-11) and UC San Diego, the host school, was third at 855 (-9). Air Force finished 11^th.

Freshman Ben Zeiler shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round and placed 15^th overall at 213 (-3), the best tournament of his career. Junior Carson Baker also shot 73 (+1) in the final round and placed 25^th at 216 (even), the best 54-hole tournament score of his career. Each player made three birdies on the day.

Junior Eli Huntington finished the tournament at 219, followed by Eric Liveringhouse (227) and Grant Samuelson (231). Ted Davenport, competing as an individual, shot a 232.

Air Force will compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, April 4-5, at the Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga.
