Falcons Fall Late to Tarleton State on Friday

STEPHENVILLE, Tx., - Air Force (10-13) fell late in the seventh inning, 7-2, to Tarleton State (17-8) at the Tarleton State Baseball Complex on Friday evening. The Falcons collected six hits and six strikeouts from the pitching staff.

Freshman Wyatt Hanoian tallied a team-high two hits with one RBI, while Kayden Bradshaw accounted for the other run batted in. Cooper Winchester logged his first collegiate hit and scored.

Josh Holst took a great start on the mound, throwing three strikeouts and allowing just one run in five innings. The first reliever, Gunner Gilmore (0-2) struck out one batter and gave up a pair of runs in 1.1 innings on the bump. Following an appearance from Marcus Downing, lefty Joey Collier logged two outs with one strikeout. The final inning was a clean frame with one strikeout from Charlie Russell.

Air Force took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first frame. With one away, Ben Niednagel hit a tough double and scored when Hanoian followed with an RBI single up the middle.

After three scoreless innings, the Texans recorded a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.

Tarleton State broke the tie, scoring six runs for a 7-1 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of eight, the Falcons answered with one run, 7-2. To open the inning, Winchester marked his first career hit, a double to the Texans' shortstop. He later advanced on a Blake Campbell groundout and scored when Bradshaw laid down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded as an error.

The Falcons will return to the Tarleton State Baseball Complex for game two against the Texans on Saturday March 28 at 3 p.m. CT/2 p.m. MT.
