USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis fell to #64 Boise State (17-6, 2-1 MW), 4-2, in Mountain West play Friday afternoon at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts. The Falcons moved to 6-9, 1-2 MW on the season.
The Falcons opened with the doubles point re-took the lead a 2-1 after Boise State won the first singles match. The Broncos closed by winning the final three singles makes to take the match.
Air Force won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to take the early lead. AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf defeated Aronson/Soderqvist 6-4 at No. 2 and Phillip Deaton and Caden Lee defeated Siefert/Kurata 7-5 at No. 3 to clinch the point.
Boise State opened with a singles win at No. 4 to tie the match up at 1-1. Deaton then won at No. 2 over Stewart Aronson in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
The Broncos rallied with wins at No. 1, 3 and 5 to rally to the win. AJ Moore at No. 1 and Jack Brown at No. 3 battled to three sets in their matches.
Head coach Evan Urbina recapping the match:
"All these conference matches are so competitive. In the end, a couple third sets didn't go our way. Jack and AJ winning second sets to get to a third set was very important for this team. We always talk about problem-solving and making adjustments, which they did. I know they both learned a lot from today and will continue to play loose and tough in those tough moments. Our lone freshman, Caden Lee, continues to make his mark in our doubles lineup. He had great energy and won some crucial deuce points for us. Phil was a great leader on the double court as well. He continued to battle in singles and I'm so proud of the way he is competing. We look forward to Sunday against Utah State."
Air Force returns to action Sunday, March 29, hosting #72 Utah State.
