Falcons Drop Game One to San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif., - Baseball (11-16, 5-2) dropped game one of the Mountain West series against San Diego State (16-15, 5-2) on Thursday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Falcons collected four hits while the pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts.
Tripp Garrish and Wyatt Hanoian accounted for Air Force's pair of runs, while Luke Elmore, Blake Campbell, and Van Klein tallied one hit apiece. Â
Starting pitcher, Josh Holst (0-3), went 2.2 innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out three. Ethan Dillinger completed two full innings on the mound, tallying one strikeout and three runs. In 2.1 innings, Gunner Gilmore struck out three batters and gave up one run. Aiden Poe closed the final inning with one strikeout.
Air Force struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With two away, Hanoian drew a walk and scored on a single from Garrish and a fielding error by the left fielder. A single by Elmore put runners on the corners and Garrish took advantage of a throwing error on San Diego State's third baseman to plate a run.
The Aztecs cut the score in half in the bottom of the same frame, 2-1.
In the bottom of three, San Diego State pulled ahead with four runs and tacked on three in the bottom of the fifth, 8-2.
The Falcons threatened in the top of the seventh when Campbell and Klein reached base with a pair of hits, but the runners were not moved home.
 To extend into the final 9-2 lead, the Aztecs scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the stretch.
Game two will take place on Friday April 3 at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
