Air Force Falls at San Diego State on Friday

SAN DIEGO, Calif., - The Falcons (11-17, 5-3) fell in the second game of the series at San Diego State (17-15, 6-2) at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Friday evening. Air Force batters marked six hits while the trio of pitchers totaled five strikeouts.
At the plate, Luke Elmore and Garrett Hutchins were responsible for the Falcons' two runs batted in, while Landon Boyd marked a pair of hits.
On the mound, Gaines Estridge (1-4) struck out two and allowed eight earned runs in his 3.1 inning start. The first reliever, Marcus Downing tossed 1.2 innings with one strikeout and a pair of earned runs allowed. Easton Miller logged a season-high three innings, striking out two batters giving up one run.
The Aztecs put up four in the bottom of two to take a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Boyd recorded the Falcons' first hit of the game, a single through the right side.
Across the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, San Diego State collected a 9-0 advantage.
The Birds were able to put up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth but still trailed 9-2. Wyatt Hanoian was hit by a pitch and scored when Elmore recorded his first triple of the season, deep down the left field line. The next batter, Hutchins sent a hit out to the gap in shallow center field, plating Elmore.
San Diego state answered with a sacrifice fly in bottom of both the sixth and eighth innings for the final 11-2 score.
The top of the ninth saw the Falcons threaten with two runners on the bags, but Air Force was unable to capitalize.
The series finale will take place on Saturday April 4 at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
