Falcons Blank Navy, 4-0, in First Shutout of the Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Air Force women's soccer (3-0-0) recorded its first shutout of the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over service academy rival Navy (1-2-0) Thursday night at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The Falcons totaled eight shots on goal, while goalkeeper Sydney Nelms made six saves to secure the clean sheet.

"It wasn't our best performance, but we accomplished the mission," said head coach Laura Busby. "Tonight they showed an unbreakable belief in their ability, and in each other. I am really grateful to coach this special group of women."

Annika Jost led the Falcons with three points, recording a goal and an assist. Kendall Rippley, Jordan Dillingham and Ellie McCarron each found the back of the net, while Ashley Yenawine and Maddy Walsh contributed assists.

Air Force opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Yenawine sent a cross toward Jost, who finished from the top of the box to put the Falcons ahead 1-0.

Just six minutes into the second half, Walsh found Rippley, who buried the pass to double Air Force's advantage. Six minutes later, Jost delivered a corner kick that Dillingham slid past the Navy defense for her second goal of the season, pushing the Falcons ahead 3-0.

McCarron put the finishing touch on the victory in the 89th minute, scoring Air Force's fourth goal of the night to seal the shutout and send the Falcons to 3-0-0 on the season.

The Falcons will play in College Station, Tx., on Thursday August 27, facing the Aggies of Texas A&M at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT.
