Air Force Kicks Off Mountain West Play Against UC Davis

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - The Falcons (5-2-1) are prepared to open Mountain West play against league newcomer UC Davis (2-5-2) on Thursday September 23 at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. MT.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE AGGIES
Air Force has played five total matches against UC Davis with a perfectly even record at 2-2-1 extending back to the first matchup between the two
programs in 1992, a 2-1 Aggie win. Against UC Davis, Air Force is 2-1 on home turf. The most recent meeting between the programs was a 1-0 Falcon victory at Cadet Soccer Stadium on September 7, 2014.
LAST TIME OUT
Air Force (5-2-1) battled Eastern Washington (5-2-1) to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium in its final non-conference match of the season. The Falcons rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit before the Eagles answered late to force the draw.
Prior to kickoff, Air Force honored six C1Cs, Chase Borntreger, Ava Carpentier, Addie Doyle, Kendall Rippley, Lauren Steinlage and Clara Teigland, in a senior recognition ceremony.
Air Force controlled much of the attacking play, recording 21 shots, including seven on goal. Eastern Washington opened the scoring in the 29th minute and carried the lead into halftime.
The Falcons continued to pressure after the break, with freshman Ashley Yenawine finding the equalizer in the 81st minute with a strike from outside the box for her first collegiate goal.
Air Force took the lead four minutes later when Chase Borntreger finished a chance created by a Jordan Dillingham header off an Annika Jost corner. The Eagles answered in the 85th minute, however, and neither team could find a late winner.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Falcons closed out their non-conference schedule with a 2-2 draw against Eastern Washington.
Air Force finished the non-conference portion of the season with five wins and two shutouts. Offensively, the Falcons totaled 56 shots on goal for a .459 SOG percentage and recorded 45 total points. In goal, Air Force's two goalkeepers combined for a .824 save percentage with 42 total saves.
MOUNTAIN WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Air Force midfielder Ashley Yenawine was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week following a two-match week, earning her first collegiate honor and the Falcons' second MW weekly award of the season.
The Westfield, N.J., native helped Air Force to a 2-1 comeback win at Denver, playing 14 minutes, and a 2-2 draw against Eastern Washington. Against the Eagles, Yenawine scored her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute, intercepting the ball outside the box before firing a strike just over the goalkeeper's fingertips to equalize.
Through eight matches, Yenawine has recorded three points on one goal and one assist in 219 minutes.
BORN TO SCORE
Chase Borntreger has emerged in the Falcons' most recent pair of matches, playing a pivotal role in Air Force's 2-1 win over Denver and 2-2 draw with Eastern Washington.
The senior scored in both matches, netting the game-winning goal at Denver to help Air Force earn its first win in the Mile High City and defeat the Pioneers for just the third time in program history. Back at USAFA, Borntreger added her second goal of the season on Senior Day, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead over Eastern Washington in the 85th minute.
