LAST TIME OUT
Air Force (6-2-1) opened Mountain West play in dramatic fashion Thursday evening, rallying from an early deficit to defeat UC Davis (2-6-2), 3-1, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons controlled much of the offensive action, recording 18 shots, including eight on goal, with three different players finding the net.
UC Davis opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a free kick that found the back of the net despite a full-extension effort from Air Force goalkeeper Sydney Nelms. The Falcons answered in the 35th minute when Annika Jost delivered a corner kick into the box and Jordan Dillingham rose above the defense to head the ball into the net. The goal marked Dillingham's third of the season and a new career high.
Air Force carried the momentum into the second half, taking its first lead in the 50th minute. Following a deflected shot from Chase Borntreger, Clara Teigland collected the loose ball and slipped a shot past the UC Davis goalkeeper for the first goal of her collegiate career. Three minutes later, Lauren Steinlage doubled the advantage with another first-career goal, gathering a throw-in from Addie Doyle before dribbling toward the top of the box and curling a left-footed shot inside the left post.
The Falcons' defense held firm the rest of the way, with Nelms making five saves to keep UC Davis off the scoreboard in the second half. The victory marked Air Force's first Mountain West win of the season and improved the Falcons to 3-0-1 at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
