JUNIOR YEAR | 2023-24: Earned the team’s Most Outstanding Competitor award…swept the Mountain West high jump titles for the second consecutive year…NCAA Qualifier…recorded best indoor and outdoor marks of the year at the conference championship meets…cleared 6’11½” to win second-straight MW Indoor championship…added a 6’11” clearance to defend MW Outdoor title…also captured first-place finishes during the indoor season at the Potts Invitational (6’9”) and Ralph Lindeman Classic (6’10¾”)…added third-place marks in 20-jumper fields at the Windy City Invitational (6’8¼” indoors) and Spank Blasing Invitational (6’8½” outdoors).
SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2022-23: Two-time Mountain West champion in the high jump…NCAA Qualifier…two-time all-conference honoree…matched the program’s Sophomore Class Record (career-best 7’1½”) to win the collegiate title at the Drake Relays…that is the second-highest outdoor clearance in Academy history and the fourth-best outdoor height in Mountain West history…became just the third Falcon to clear seven feet outdoors…named the MW Field Athlete of the Week following that meet…first debuted on the program’s Top 10 (sixth) after clearing 6’11” to finish second at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate…won the MW Outdoor title with a 6’9½” clearance…also won the Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invitational with an outdoor-opening 6’8¼”…became the ninth Falcon to clear the seven-foot bar during the indoor season, after recording a career-best clearance of 7’1” at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational…that is the fifth-best height in program history…also cleared seven feet to win the MW Indoor title (7’0½”)…added a win at the Potts Invitational (6’9”)…placed within the top four during all six indoor meets…earned the team’s Alonzo Babers Outstanding Performance Award.
FRESHMAN YEAR | 2021-22: Runner-up at the USATF U20 Nationals…all-conference honoree in the outdoor high jump…matched the sixth-best outdoor jump in program history with a 6’10¾” clearance at the Jim Click Shootout…recorded a clearance of 6’9” to finish third at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships…earned runner-up honors at the Front Range Classic and Air Force Twilight Open…recorded the Academy’s eighth-best indoor jump (6’11”) to finish fourth at the MW Indoor Championships…helped Air Force to four of the top five finishes and 25 total points at the conference meet…finished second in first road competition at the Potts Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Summer Creek High School…No. 4-ranked high school high jumper in the nation in 2021, following a season-best clearance of 7’1”…Texas 6A state champion…All-American…scored a 1350 on the SAT.
PERSONAL: Son of Stephen and Kenosha Rivers…has one younger sister…majoring in computer science, with a focus on cyber…future plans include working in the cybersecurity field…named to the Athletic Director’s List…currently service as the athletics officer…knows how to program…hobbies include watching UFC fights, shooting pool, and playing video games…nicknames are “Jriv”…served as cadre for Falcon Sports Camps over the summer…also took an academic class…member of Cadet Squadron 34.
