JUNIOR YEAR | 2019-20: Competed in two meets...matched career-best pole vault clearance of 15’1” to finish fourth at the Air Force Holiday Open...also registered a season-best time of 8.85 in the 60-meter hurdles at that meet...placed fourth in the heptathlon at the Air Force Invitational.
SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2018-19: Scored for Air Force in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Indoor Championships...tallied 4510 points to place seventh at the conference meet...recorded personal-best marks in the 60-meter hurdles (8.81) and shot put (31’1¾”) at that meet...collected a career-best heptathlon total of 4564 points to finish fourth at the Texas Tech Shootout...posted personal-best marks in the high jump (5’10¾”) and 1000-meter run (2:56.23) during that competition...tallied career-best marks in the 60-meter dash (7.38) and long jump (20’2¼”) during first collegiate heptathlon (Air Force Invitational)...rounded out event-best marks with a 15’1” clearance in the pole vault at the Air Force Collegiate Open...competed in the decathlon once during the outdoor season...tallied 6013 points to finish fifth at the Jim Click Decathlon...won the pole vault during that meet with a career-best clearance of 15’5”...tallied career-best marks in the 400-meter dash (50.77), high jump (5’8½”), discus throw (98’9”) and javelin throw (99’9”) at that meet, while making only collegiate appearance in the 100-meter dash (11.57), 1500-meter run (4:42.90), long jump (18’7¼”) and shot put (30’8½”)...added a personal-best 110-meter hurdles time of 15.82 at the Air Force Twilight Open.

HIGH SCHOOL: Billings West High School...two-time USATF All-American in the decathlon...state champion in the pole vault...eight-time all-state selection in track and field...holds the school and divisional record in the pole vault...also ran on the 4x400-meter relay that set a school record...four-year member of the cross country team...eight-time academic all-state selection.
PERSONAL: Full name is Tyler James Gurchiek...son of David and Lyndy Gurchiek...father served as a medic in the Navy...has a half-brother, who is currently an NCO in the Air Force...majoring in systems engineering...future career plans include becoming a Special Tactics Officer...served as an Athletic Officer...hobbies include climbing, playing the ukulele and playing outdoors...served as an Element Leader over the summer, during Basic Cadet Training...member of Cadet Squadron 30.
