Parents and Young Fencers:
Thank you for considering the AF Fencing Camp this summer led by Air Force Head Coach, Katarzyna Dabrowa, and her Assistant Coaching staff! Fencing is a very physical, strategic, and technical sport. Our camp works to improve the individual in this challenging and exciting sport.
Session 1, Experience the Olympic sport of Fencing with Air Force Fencing Camp! This camp will focus on the fundamentals of each weapon (Epee, Foil, Sabre) as well as overall motor skills development and physical fitness. This camp is Ideal for campers who are new to the sport of Fencing, while campers with more experience are welcome to enroll as well. Campers can expect to learn the basic movements and ideas of each weapon and to engage in the fun and unique experience of partner sparring with a sword in a safe and controlled environment. Above all, everyone can expect to have fun and learn at the same time!
Session 2 at the AF Fencing Camp offers experienced and advanced fencers a way to improve their technique, strategy, and conditioning. Our goal is to afford campers an opportunity to practice and develop their skills while receiving excellent instruction from successful intercollegiate coaches and fencers. We emphasize instruction in the weapon of your choice (Epee, Foil, Sabre) and provide a great deal of information on everything necessary to become a more successful fencer. There is also an emphasis on improving coordination and conditioning and this camp will be a great precursor for those competing at Nationals. This camp is designed more for those fencers who have competed at a Regional or National Level.
Each session will be capped at 40 campers (20 epee/10 foil/10 saber).
ALL CAMPERS MUST BRING THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT, AND BE FULLY EQUIPPED IN ORDER TO ATTEND CAMP.
Fencing equipment should include but is not limited to:
- Fencing Jacket
- Foil or Saber Lame
- Underarm protector
- Knickers
- Chest Protector (females)
- Long socks
- Mask
- Fencing glove
- Body Cords
- Athletic shoes (fencing shoes)
- Electric weapons of choice
- Water bottle
In addition to these items, campers need to wear gym shorts and t-shirts every day for other activities besides fencing.
On an average day, fencers will spend a couple of hours exercising, stretching and doing footwork, and time playing tactical games. After lunch the afternoon is spent learning and perfecting fencing skills and bouting. There are occasional video viewing sessions geared towards tactics. Expect to work hard but also have a lot of fun.
Again, thank you for considering our camp. We are confident it will be a rewarding experience and contribute to future success in fencing.
