SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2020-21: Competed in the mile during four indoor meets…posted a career-best time of 4:14.65 (adjusted for altitude, track size) to finish third at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Open…also anchored the distance medley relay that won that meet…did not compete during the outdoor season…academic all-conference selection…MW Scholar-Athlete.
FRESHMAN YEAR | 2019-20: Competed in the mile during five indoor meets...clocked a personal-best time of 4:18.95 (adjusted for altitude) to finish sixth out of 38 runners at the Air Force Collegiate Open...also accounted for a top-10 finish at the Air Force Team Challenge (4:20.56a, sixth)...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.
HIGH SCHOOL: North Salem High School...third-team all-state selection in cross country as a senior after finishing 20th at the state meet...placed fourth in the 1600-meter run at the New York NYSPHSAA Championships...claimed a combined 10 league championships (cross country, 1600-meter run, 800-meter run)...awarded the Con Edison Scholar-Athlete Award...named the News 12 Westchester Athlete of the Week...served as president of the National Honor Society...also served as president of the Math Honor Society...maintained a 100.4 average in high school...took nine AP classes, scoring “5” on seven and “4” on two.
PERSONAL: Full name is Benjamin Wayne Leicht...goes by Ben...nickname is “Derby”...son of Josh Leicht and Katherine Daniels...has one older brother...majoring in aeronautical engineering and applied physics...future plans include becoming a flight test pilot...currently serving as the Athletics NCOIC...named to the Superintendent’s List for excellence in military, academic and athletic performance...hobbies include running, biking, hiking and swimming...played soccer for seven years, before running track (“I was cut from the school team and started my journey on the track”)…completed Interpersonal Leadership Training (ILT) and a cadet research project over the summer…also took a road trip around the Pacific Northwest...would like to add that “running is fun!”...member of Cadet Squadron 36.
