FRESHMAN (2008): Named the team[apos]s Newcomer of the Year...posted the second-best pole vault clearances in Academy history during both the indoor and outdoor seasons...NCAA Regional Qualifier...cleared career-best height of 12[apos]10¼' at the Air Force Invitational...that is the second-highest clearance in Academy history and a new Freshman Class record...became one of just four females in Academy history to clear the 12-foot plateau...cleared 12[apos]7½' at the Arizona State Invitational to move into second in the outdoor record book...that regional qualifying clearance occurred during the second meet of the outdoor season...earned the team[apos]s Field Athlete of the Week award once during the indoor season...also named the team[apos]s Newcomer of the Week.
HIGH SCHOOL: Competed in the pole vault at the California state championships all four years...finished third in the state as a junior with a jump of 12[apos]9'...won two CIF-San Joaquin section titles...set a personal-best 12[apos]10 at the state meet during senior season to finish fifth...also finished fifth in the pole vault at the 2007 Golden West Invitational.
PERSONAL: Daughter of Craig and Carol Simmons...nickname is 'Rip'...has four younger siblings, Rob, Cale, Olivia and Isabel...Rob and Cale are current freshmen on the Falcons[apos] pole vault team...planning on earning a double major in military strategic studies and humanities...future plans include becoming a 'full-bird colonel and Arabic translator'...serves as a 'human alarm clock' at the Academy...avid Rubix Cube enthusiast and fan of Discovery Channel...hobbies include skiing, cloud watching and training her cat.
