Michael Babb is the Associate Athletic Director for Finance at the United States Air Force Academy, a role he assumed in the summer of 2024. In this capacity, Babb is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the Academy's athletic programs and supporting the strategic direction of cadet initiatives. His role involves supervising the financial operations of the Air Force Academy’s Athletic Department and substantial involvement with the Air Force Academy Corporation, including budgeting, cost estimation, and long-range financial planning.
Before joining the Athletic Department, Babb served as the A8P Division Chief at Headquarters United States Air Force Academy. In this position, he managed the budgeting, cost estimating, and financial planning for over $100 million annually, aligning resources with Department of Air Force priorities and directives from Congressional and defense leadership. His responsibilities also included the program management of the Air Force Academy's Athletic Corporation and the administration of the Academy’s Operational Plans.
Babb’s extensive career in financial management includes his role as Director of Budget and Financial Operations for NORAD & U.S. NORTHCOM, J6 Cyberspace Operations, where he led budget formulation and execution for Air and Space Force operations from 2010 to 2022. He led a team of civilian and military financial managers in developing and defending budgets that supported homeland defense, including strategic guidance for land, maritime, cyber, and air operations, as well as defense support to civil authorities and theater security cooperation.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a focus on Corporate Finance. Babb is a Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) and possesses a DoD Level III Financial Management Certification.
Babb's distinguished career has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Joint Meritorious Civilian Service Award (2020, 2022), the MG Robert C. Thompson Resource Management Award, the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award (2010, 2017), the SAF/FM General Larry O. Spencer Special Acts and Services Award (2016), and several achievement awards from NORAD & USNORTHCOM, the United States Congress, the Air Force and the Army.
Outside of his professional life, Babb enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittney, and their three children: Trey, Ciera, and Weston.
